Mobile Deposit- Tips and Reminders

Prepare your check

  • Flatten folded or crumpled checks before taking your photos.
  • Ensure the MICR line (numbers on the bottom of your check) is readable.
  • Make sure the check has not been deposited previously.

Taking the photo

  • Keep the check within the view finder on the camera screen when capturing your photos.
  • Take the photos of your check in a well-lit area (shadows can cause distortion).
  • Place the check on solid dark background before taking the photo of it.
  • Keep your phone flat and steady above the check when taking your photos.
  • Hold the camera as square to the check as possible to reduce corner to corner skew.
  • Try not to get too much of the areas surrounding the check, but get all four corners
  • Try not to get shadows across the check
  • Make sure that the entire check image is visible and in focus before submitting your deposit.

Data Entry

  • Sign/Endorse the back of your check, and label it based on the prompt.
  • Make sure to endorse the check with your signature and the phrase “For SBB Mobile Deposit
Only” or “For State Bank of Bern Mobile Deposit Only”
    – It is beneficial, to prevent fraud, to include either the current date or the check number in the endorsement on the back.
  • When prompted for the amount, carefully enter the check amount to ensure it matches the amount written on your check.

REMINDERS

  • Mobile Deposit Capture is a privilege and can be revoked at any time, for any reason, by the
    Bank.
  • Mobile Deposit limits are $1,000 per item, $2,000 per day.
    – This is to ensure our procedures are adequate and is likely to increase in the future.
    – Contact your branch location if you need a one-time increase in the limit.
  • Certain types of checks will not work with Mobile Deposit (including, but not limited to, Foreign
checks, money orders, and US Savings Bonds).
  • Retain the check until you are certain it has been deposited AND accepted by the Bank (general
    recommendation is 45-60 days).
